...how to begin to tell you what that the last
two and half days have been like.
suffice to say there has been high drama,
low comedy and major confrontation with bureaucratic authority.
unfortunately, or fortunately-- one must be a warrior advocate for a loved one
while in a hospital.
this does not make one the winner of Ms Congeniality.
it does make one suspect to the bureaucracy
it does help enormously to have a loud mouth
New York shoulders and a sincere thank you and smile
it does help to yelp and wail at authorities and
rattle as many buckets and bells as you can without getting arrested.
it does help to love the person you are going to bat for fiercely
it does help to store up brownie points with those in the power structure who can help resolve a matter.. but also to know that it makes little difference in major entrenched institutions
there are structures in place in UCLA to deal with problems
but unfortunately the wheels are slow and
full of shit and false smiles and
basically -- in our case, they hospital came up a day late and a dollar short n T's latest healing crisis.
thanks instead to the noble efforts of floor nurses
who helped him thru the nights
kind care partnersm who mopped his brow and bathed him sweetly
a zen like surgical team, who appreciated the silence he chose for awhile
Evelyn and Mickey Shultz up in heaven for whatever they were doing
and a good dose of fuck you-- touch him again and i'll kill you
from his gentle and well mannered spouse
my god
where goes gentilty when one fights to protect
someone you love from an unseen foe
and frankly i began to feel as paranoid as my sweet nut case husband
after a while
but..... NoW
today T slept for the first time in five days
he is walking
talking
making more sense
beginning to rest and make progress and
my job is to keep him safe until i can get him home
man oh man
with all best intentions things happen
risk is everywhere
they're making lists
checking them twice.... sound familiar???
how's that for persistent mystery
xxoo
